Tribulations

Southern Baptist, Trump, and the Dawning of Tribulation

Introduction

The American Church

In times past, the church stood as a moral compass for society, unyielding in its pursuit of righteousness, truth, and holiness. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), once a bulwark of conservative evangelical values, was known for its firm stance against immorality and corruption. Yet now, many within the SBC and broader American evangelicalism have pledged allegiance to a man who not only embodies but boasts of nearly every one of the traditional Seven Deadly Sins. This man, Donald J. Trump, now a convicted felon, remains the champion of a movement that claims to represent Christian values. In light of Scripture, particularly 2 Thessalonians, we must now ask: has the church fallen into strong delusion? Have we entered the days of tribulation?

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Character of Trump

seven deadly sins
Seven Deadly Sins
  1. Pride – The root of all sin, pride leads to self-exaltation above God and others. Trump’s persona is steeped in arrogance. His boasts are legion: “I alone can fix it,” he declared in 2016. He exalts himself above judges, laws, even the Constitution, placing his will above all.
    • Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
  2. Greed – Trump’s history is riddled with financial manipulation, bankruptcy schemes, and self-enrichment while in office. His campaign has funneled donor money into personal businesses. His fixation on wealth and power defines him.
    • 1 Timothy 6:10 – “For the love of money is the root of all evil…”
  3. Lust – Admitted affairs, boasting of sexual assault (“grab them by the p***y”), and accusations from multiple women underscore a life dominated by unrepentant lust.
    • Matthew 5:28 – “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
  4. Envy – Trump has publicly attacked anyone who outshines him—political opponents, entertainers, even allies. He cannot stomach success in others without tearing them down.
    • James 3:16 – “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”
  5. Gluttony – Not merely about food, gluttony in a biblical sense refers to overindulgence in worldly things. Trump’s excessive desire for media, adoration, and constant campaigning reflects an insatiable appetite for attention and power.
    • Philippians 3:19 – “Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.”
  6. Wrath – His presidency and campaign have been marked by inflammatory rhetoric, encouraging violence, demonizing immigrants, and stoking division. He has no patience for correction, often retaliating harshly and publicly.
    • Proverbs 14:29 – “He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.”
  7. Sloth – While appearing tireless, his sloth is spiritual. There is no evidence of prayer, no submission to divine authority, no commitment to moral reflection. He avoids moral labor, repentance, or correction, preferring self-deception.
    • Hebrews 6:12 – “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

The Spirit of Lawlessness

In 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4, Paul warns:

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed…”

Trump has claimed near-messianic authority. His refusal to submit to the Supreme Court’s rulings, his undermining of election results, his defiance of congressional subpoenas, and even his disrespect for the Constitution (“I want to terminate the Constitution,” he said) all reflect lawlessness at the highest level.

- *Isaiah 5:20* – “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil...”
- *Matthew 24:12* – “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”

The Southern Baptist Compromise

The Great Falling Away

The Southern Baptist Convention was once a voice of repentance and accountability. But in recent years, many within the SBC have chosen political power over prophetic truth. Once condemning adultery and corruption, they now minimize or outright ignore Trump’s sins.

- *Revelation 2:4–5* – “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent...”

The Tribulation Has Begun

Jesus warned that in the last days, deception would be so great that even the elect might be deceived (Matthew 24:24). The rise of Trump within the church is not just political—it is spiritual. It represents the church’s divorce from the truth and its submission to Babylon.

- *2 Timothy 3:1–5* – "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come..."

Time Is Very Short

If we cannot discern the times, we are already lost. Paul wrote that those who refused to love the truth would be given over to strong delusion.

- *Romans 13:11* – “...it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

Come Out of Her, My People

Tribulations
Come out of Babylon

Revelation 18:4 declares:

“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins…”

- *Jeremiah 51:6* – “Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul...”

Conclusion

To continue supporting Trump in light of his actions, words, and lawless defiance is not a neutral political choice—it is a spiritual decision. The warnings of 2 Thessalonians are not abstract—they are upon us. Unless we awaken now, we may find ourselves on the wrong side of eternity.

Let the church return to her first love. Let pastors repent for silence. Let truth be exalted once again.

Because the King is coming. And His judgment will not delay.
