Founding of the SBC-1845
The Southern Baptist Convention was founded in 1845 during a dispute in which slavery and the rights of slaveholding missionaries were central issues. Today, the SBC remains one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States, yet many members may be unfamiliar with how deeply its origins were connected to slavery, racial hierarchy, and white supremacy.
